"This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age."
Fighting with a lightsaber is not an easy task. There are many precise motions one must master in order to achieve great skill. Furthermore, one will find that it is more about where he is in a fight, and the timing of his blows than the flashy dance of his blade that counts. Flashy skill comes with time, but for basics, one must always be conscious of where the fight is going and where he needs to be to best counter any offenses made by the opponent.
“You must begin by gaining power over yourself; then another; then a group, an order, a world, a species, a group of species… finally, the galaxy itself.”
In order for one to be able to be great, he must master himself. This is necessary to control one's own movements whilst in battle. Once this is accomplished, one can then focus on controlling his opponent, as one would a puppet, guiding and directing it until it is in the proper place moving where he directs. Lightsaber combat is filled with feints and dashes, charges and retreats, aerial assaults and ground based strikes- all must be used to impose one's will on the course of a battle. Eventually one will be able to fend off multiple opponents, using these same tactics..
“Without strife, your victory has no meaning. Without strife, you do not advance. Without strife, there is only stagnation.”
Never be discouraged by what seems to be a lack of skill. Remember, there is always someone better, and because of this, we can always improve. Take it as a great honor to fight someone who is stronger, watch their movements pay attention to what they do, learn how they are moving, see what they are doing, let their motions teach you everything you need to know about why the defeat is occurring.
"Sometimes all you will learn in defeat is that you have been defeated."
Moreover, no matter how much one may be defeated, he may not understand why. Seeking the advice of those around him, those who are both his peers, his superiors, and his inferiors can divulge ways of improvement. The goal is to understand that no matter how skillful or unbeatable someone may be, they began as we all did, feeble fledglings barely able to understand what it meant to fight with a lightsaber.
"Use my knowledge, I beg you."
If anyone wants further instruction on lightsaber combat or anything else, feel free to ask me, and/or anyone in the higher tiers of the clan for help, we will be more than happy to impart what knowledge we have, to best help along those in training.
