This is another post that was originally from Sith'ari DesertFox, being brought here.
Peace is a lie.
There is only passion.
Through passion I gain strength.
Through strength I gain power.
Through power I gain victory.
Through victory my chains are broken.
The Force shall set me free.
-The Sith Code
There are two types of individuals. Those who are driven internally, and those who are driven externally. Externally driven individuals seek goals that are external, such as achieving rank, money, fame, etc. Those who are internally driven have a more powerful need to satisfy internal motives such as conscience, lust for power, enlightenment, etc. To be blunt, neither rank, nor money, nor fame are worth much, nor are any real goals that are external because they facilitate only stagnation and efficiency. They simply require one to be "good enough" or "up to par," and as such, they lack any real necessity improve with exception of competition. However, internally driven goals are much more striking. If I wanted to increase my power purely on the base that I craved it- I thirst for it- I will stop at nothing to increase it. Never would enough power sate my insane lust to execute my abilities to god-like levels. I compare it to two students in academia: the first student of external drives would study just enough to pass the class, or achieve whatever goal he set in mind; however the second student, because he thirsts for knowledge, will keep learning and devour knowledge like a ravenous animal who cannot control his hunger. The second student will completely outclass the first, simply because his potential is unlimited, whereas the first student is limited by his own goals- he will never have a reason to far surpass them.
“Do you feel it? Do you feel the power of the dark side? The only real power! The only thing worth living for!”
~Darth Bane
I strongly encourage all to find satisfaction in gaining power, knowledge, or any ability. Becoming better as an individual is far more gratifying than any physical pleasure one can achieve. Being able to exercise one's will upon others, whether for amusement or achievement, is far more profound than anything else one can experience. Improving one's self improves his whole experience as a person, and filters through his actions down to every fiber of his being. What's more, is these individuals who do accomplish this find that their peers are in awe of their prowess. No great figure of any kind ever became accomplished by merely being adequate for the circumstances; they attained excellency by shattering the concepts of what should be, and took destiny into their own hands, and wrested it with their power and might into what they willed it to be!
“Equality is a lie…a myth to appease the masses. Simply look around and you will see the lie for what it is! There are those with power, those with the strength and will to lead. And there are those meant to follow-those incapable of anything but servitude and a meager, worthless existence.”
-Darth Bane
Even if two individuals have the same rank, or station, they are not necessarily equal. The one who strives to become more powerful, to learn more, to become more capable, will outclass the other. Sometimes this is the case when the one who craves power is even in a lower station than the other. Still, it does not matter, for rest assured that increase in rank, goes hand in hand with increase in power..
"The thirst for power-this alone is what is necessary to excel beyond the norm. Without it, we become feeble and frail, overconfident and pathetic, incapable and unsalvagable. The lack of struggle to improve is a poison of the mind, and must be drawn out if one seeks to become great."
