Moved from database to words of wisdom mostly for the same reason as Kakashi's advice post from Methos. Very bias/more opinion than fact, so more like advice rather than mechanics input. Also very... outdated information. But as usual all additions to are welcome

I.) Introduction [SECI]
=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--
Well, I don't really know what to say. This is the
first time I've written a guide for any game in the
Jedi Knight series for three years, and I'm actually
surprised to be coming back. I thought I was done
when I finished my last guide under JK2 (I was using
a different name then.)
So, I got bored one day and decided to come back to
JKA to see what had become of the online world. I had
stopped playing because the community was so bad, it
was worse than Counter-Strike. You couldn't go to a
server and not hear someone whining about something
because they lost.. and usually the arguments were
almost big enough to start another World War.
I came back, found a nice clan, for some odd reason
became Council in that clan, and so the story goes.
And still, the community is very divided in JKA. Where
in the FFA servers, you will find a mostly good
community. In the Duel servers, especially BWN, you
will find the whiners.
I wrote this guide for many purposes. One, to help
beginners when they first go online. Two, to promote
the clan i'm in. And three, because I was bored =p
Anyways, enjoy my guide.. and if your interested in
talking to me, check the contact information at the
bottom of this FAQ.

II.) Single Saber [SECII]
=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--
NOTE: ALL STRATEGIES ARE IN SUBSECTION D.
Single saber is probably the most used saber online,
because there are several misconceptions surrounding
Duals and especially Staff. I'll go over those now.
MISCONCEPTIONS
- Pros only use single.
- Single is the only weapon that skill is needed.
- Single is the best weapon.
FACTS
- Pros can use anything they want. I use staff,
a lot of people use single, theres a GOA guy named
Neo who's really good with Duals.
- Not true. The other weapons do take skill if
your not using them in some noob way. For example,
spamming butterfly.. true that that doesnt take
any skill at all, but if you'll notice in this FAQ
I dont even say how to do a staff butterfly =p
- Single is not the best weapon. There is no best
weapon. They all have their advantages and
disadvantages.
A lot of people use this weapon because either
everyone else is using it, they can't handle the
arguments against Staff and Dual users being "noobs",
or they are some huge roleplayer who just goes onto
servers and says stuff like "Join the dark side."
"The force is strong in you." Believe me, those are
actual quotes (and their not binds lol) =p
Ok, enough talk. Let's go over the strengths and
Weaknesses of this saber.
STRENGTHS
- Strong attacks.
- Lunge as a special move in Blue.
- You won't get complaints from whiners if they die.
- It can be exploited.
WEAKNESSES
- It can be exploited.
- Most of the special attacks are useless.
- Useless backstabs.
- The only powerful swings you have are in Red,
so you'll have to practice weeks on your combos.
- It's defenses are near as strong as Staff or Duals.
- 80% of the swings are just useless.
- Your combos can't go on nonstop.
Thats basically it. Now, lets move to stances.
- iiA. Yellow [SECIIA]
Single Yellow is the most basic stance in the entire
game. Its the first stance you learn in Single Player,
and quite frankly its the easiest stance to use.
STRENGTHS
- Balanced swings. Your swings are as defensive as
they are offensive.
- Normal backstab.
- Can counter staff.
WEAKNESSES
- The backstab is useless on single saber.
- Your special move is also useless.
- You wont be killing Red Stance users or dual
users with Yellow.
- You wont be using over half of your swings.
Now, lets go over the special moves:
BACKSTAB
(When enemy is behind you, BACK + ATTACK)
Basically you spin around with your lightsaber.
I'm supposing this is supposed to be effective, but
with single it's just not. Don't use this unless you
absolutely have to.
DEATH FROM ABOVE
(When enemy is in front of you, FORWARD/JUMP/ATTACK)
You jump up in the air and do some funky saber
swing. Never do this either. It may have been
effective in Single Player, but MultiPlayer's
physics are completely different than
Single Player's. This almost never hits, and if it
does hit, it doesnt do much damage.
KATA
(ATTACK + ALTERNATE ATTACK)
Basically you do some funky move that is useless
and should never be used. For one, katas are the
easiest moves to counter in the entire game. For
two, it uses fifty points of your force pool. It's
not worth it.
Ok, now for combos.
FORWARD DIAGONAL COMBOS
Other Terms: None
Noob Terms: None
To perform these combos, what you do is you move
foward, left or right, in a diagonal motion, and then
attack, then go the opposite diagonal way and do the
same. These combos are good for starting spins.
DIAGONAL COUNTER
Other Terms: None
Noob Terms: None
No one really uses these combos, but they do work.
You'll use them especially a lot with Duals and
Staff. To perform these combos, you go Diagonal
Right and attack, and then Diagonal Left backwards
and attack. This is a good defensive combo. And
remember, you can't spin while doing this combo
or it won't work (plus you'll probably die.)
COUNTER
Other Terms: Slice
Noob Terms: Fan, Spam
These combos are only good in yellow for if your
fighting a staff user and you dont want to risk
using Red. To use the combos, you strafe left and
right while attacking to get some side-to-side
slashes. You have to do this without spinning
though, otherwise it wont work.
All of these combos can be done crouching.
- iiB. Blue [SECIIB]
Blue is the fastest style in the game. It is also
the weakest, but there are some strategies that can
make it useful. These are discussed in subsection D.
STRENGTHS
- Fast swings.
- Powerful lunge special move.
- Can fight against Single Red if used correctly.
WEAKNESSES
- All of the swings are extremely weak.
- Completely useless backstab.
- Not something you'll use regularly.
- Is only good fighting against Single Red unless
your doing a quick lunge. Otherwise, its completely
useless.
Special moves:
LUNGE
(CROUCH + FOWARD + ATTACK)
This is basically the most important thing you'll be
using in Blue. It's fast, powerful, and can counter
basically every special move in the entire game.
So, if you see a dual or staff user who is using
butterfly or twirl constantly, retaliate with lunge
every time that person does it. However, remember,
Lunge does have two weaknesses. One, it uses some
force power. Two, what you see in your crosshair is
basically what you get. Once you start the special
move, you can't move until its over.
BACKSTAB
(When enemy is behind you, BACK + ATTACK)
This is a wannabe Darth Maul backstab, only your
not using staff. It's also almost as useless as
the stance itself (excluding lunges of course.)
Never use it.
KATA
(ATTACK + ALTERNATE ATTACK)
Even more useless and suicidal than the Yellow kata.
Also uses your half of your force pool, and your
standing still the whole time.
Combos:
COUNTER
Other Terms: Slice
Noob Terms: Fan, Spam
Same thing as the yellow counter. You strafe from
left to right and attack (without spinning). However
since the timing is different due to the difference
in speeds, you'll have to practice doing this combo
to stop yourself from spinning.
That's pretty much the only combo your ever going
to use in Blue, unless you have a deathwish.
- iiC. Red [SECIIC]
Single Red is the most widely used Single Style.
It does the most damage, and it can be exploited.
For good intentions, I will not describe how to
use exploits with this stance.
STRENGTHS
- Very powerful attacks.
- Endless amount of combos.
- Everyone has their own style.
WEAKNESSES
- Very, very slow attacks.
- Each attack leaves you open for a short time.
- There is a steep learning curve.
- If everyone's using exploits, and your not, it's
just no fun.
- All of the special moves are completely useless.
Special Moves:
DEATH FROM ABOVE
(FORWARD + JUMP + ATTACK)
Using this move is just a symbol that shouts "I'm
a newbie." No professional player using Red ever
uses this move, or ever even has a need. Your
pretty desperate if you use this.
BACKSTAB
(When enemy is behind you, BACK + ATTACK)
Exact same as yellow backstab. It's good, but just
not good to use on Single Saber.
KATA
(ATTACK + ALTERNATE ATTACK)
For some odd reason, this is the Kata that most
people like to use in Single. They think its the
best and only kata in the game they should be using.
In truth, this is the next to worst kata to be
using in the entire game. It is very easy to
counter, because you at the end of the kata you step
foward and are wide open because on the forward
slash, you quite literally but the saber down to
your knees.
Combos:
Due to the amount of combos that can be performed
on Red, I simply can't post them all. However, I can
tell you how to easily find them all out. Each combo
works like this:
Basically, you can do one of two things. One, you
can do one swing twice and do a swing that would be
right next to it.. I'll illustrate that:
Each star represents a direction you can swing your
lightsaber. If you still dont understand, the player
is in the Center of the circle (respresented with a
+ sign.)
*
* *
* + * - Do one here.
* * - You can do two swings here and then...
*
Or..
*
* * - You can swing here..
* + * - To here..
* * - Then to here, causing
* a spin.
- iiD. Strategies [SECIID]
Against Single.
Well, most single users pretty much stick to Red.
There's two things you can do in basic. One, you
can use the counter combo with blue to attack them
when their open at the end of all of their combos,
thus you would play defensively. Or two, you could
use Red along with them and pray you win.
Only use Blue if you really know what your doing,
otherwise try your luck with red.
If they kata with blue or yellow, lunge them. If
they kata with red, quickly switch to yellow and
counter them.
If they are using blue, use yellow until they
switch style. If they use yellow, use red.
Against Duals.
Use red against duals. If they kata, then you can
either roll attack them or you can lunge them.
On their combos, just counter them with red combos.
Against Staff.
This is going to be a very hectic fight. You can use
either red or yellow. If your using red, their going
to probably attack you at the end of your combos,
which you'll deeply regret. If you use yellow, just
spam the counter combo until their defenses are down,
then go all-out.
When the staff user butterflies, try to lunge them
if your that bold.. however remember they can spin
whenever they are near you.

III.) Dual Sabers [SECIII]
=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--
NOTE: ALL STRATEGIES ARE IN SUBSECTION C.
Well, you'll quickly find that dualists are few
and far online. You will rarely find a really really
skilled dual user.. however, you will come across
them. And I'm going to point this out, if used
incorrectly, you will quickly die using duals. If
used correctly, duals can give you near invincibility
with their defensive capabilities.
Remember that note, duals are only good used
defensively. I have never to this day seen anyone
use them well offensively, because their attacks
are defense-based. Go figure.
MISCONCEPTIONS
- Only newbies use duals.
- There are no good dualists.
- Duals requires no skill at all.
FACTS
- There do exist skilled dualists. I myself am not
one of them. I did not have the patience for such
a defensive weapon. If you want to see a skilled
dualist, go onto the GOA duel server, its the only
place I've ever seen them.
- Duals requires more skill than what meets your
eye.. and I condemn everyone who says anything
like that duals and staff requires no skill.
It requires skill to use, and it requires skill
to beat. Crying wont change anything.
Ok, now that we have this psychological stuff out
of the way, lets about why you should or shouldn't
use the weapon in the Strengths and Weaknesses.
STRENGTHS
- Unstoppable defensive power.
- Can switch to Single Blue and lunge!
- Kata that can be spun to instantly kill.
- Neverending combos.
- Extremely powerful backstab.
WEAKNESSES
- Kata that can be spun to instantly kill.
(upsets peers)
- Not good if used offensively.
- There aren't many skilled dualists online.
- The twirl is completely useless.
- The butterfly is completely useless.
- iiiA. Dual [SECIIIA]
Well, this is basically just dual sabers. This is
the most defensive style in the entire game.. and it
can really scare a staff user. Single users will give
you one heck of a time, though.
STRENGTHS
- A kata that can be spun.
- Extremely defensive.. if used correctly, not
even a staff will get through those dual sabers.
- Average attack power.
- Strong backstab.
WEAKNESSES
- Useless and suicidal butterfly and twirl.
- May have difficulty with single users.
- Few skilled dualists online.
Special moves:
TWIRL
(CROUCH + FOWARD + ATTACK)
I wouldn't get into a habit of using this move.
Not only does it use a lot of your force pool, it
also leaves you completely open to the back. A staff
user and a single user would like nothing more than
for you to use this special move, so trust me, avoid
it.
BUTTERFLY
(When enemy is behind you, BACK + ATTACK)
You get your sabers and do some funky jump in
the air that I'm assuming is supposed to be
effective. It's not. It misses about 90% of the
time and uses a lot of force pool that you would
probably want to use on jumping (if you havn't
broken the habit of jumping and just started hopping
yet.)
KATA
(ATTACK + ALTERNATE ATTACK)
This is possibly the cheapest (and deadliest) move
in the entire game if done with duals. Basically,
you lift your sabers in the air, etc. However, since
the developers seem to have forgotten about the game,
you can also spin while doing it, causing your
sabers to go everywhere and kill every single person
that touches them. It's very cheap and it's very
gay.
Combos:
COUNTER
Other Terms: Slice
Noob Terms: Fan, Spam
You strafe left to right and attack. If you spin,
it wont work and will only get you killed.. so
practice doing it without spinning. I'd also
suggest that you crouch when doing it, to protect
the area below your waist. This is a very defensive
combo that I don't believe any swing can counter.
FORWARD DIAGONAL COMBOS
Other Terms: None
Noob Terms: None
To perform these combos, what you do is you move
foward, left or right, in a diagonal motion, and then
attack, then go the opposite diagonal way and do the
same. These combos are good for starting spins.
DIAGONAL COUNTER
Other Terms: None
Noob Terms: None
No one really uses these combos, but they do work.
To perform these combos, you go Diagonal
Right and attack, and then Diagonal Left backwards
and attack. This is a good defensive combo. And
remember, you can't spin while doing this combo
or it won't work (plus you'll probably die.)
These are great combos to use on duals.
- iiiB. Single Blue (with small variations) [SECIIIB]
There is no need to go into detail about this.
If you want info on this stance check section iiB.
The only differences between the Single version and
the Dual version of this stance is that you cant kata
and you can't cartwheel. You can still lunge though
=p
- iiiC. Strategies [SECIIIC]
Against Single.
If the single user is using blue, which I doubt
will happen unless your playing against some total
newbie, just spam stuff until they die.
If the single user is using yellow, use diagonal
combos.
If the single user is using red, you can either
switch to blue (if you know what your doing), or
you can wait for that one second when their combos
end and when their open to attack them.
Against Duals.
Use both diagonal combos and counter combos.. and
use it when you think your timing would be good
enough for them to work.
Against Staff.
If your fighting a staff user, use mostly counter
combos, and if they use kata or even butterfly,
lunge them.
--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=
IV.) Staff Saber [SECIV]
=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--
NOTE: ALL STRATEGIES ARE IN SUBSECTION C.
Well, here we are, the staff. It's the most
controversial weapon in the entire game, which I
can understand. There are some idiots who use the
staff and just spam butterfly and call themselves
skilled (which they aren't.) (at all.)
(they're noobs.)
Also, before starting this section, I would like to
get something behind us. NOT EVERY STAFF USER IS A
NOOB. So all of these words:
Lightstick
Noobstick
Glowstick
Double-Ended Flashlight
.. I never want to hear. If you play on BWN, you'll
hear them alot from the whiners who don't know how
to take a loss. And yes, there is an existance of
skill when using staff. It takes skill to use a
staff (appropriately), and it takes skill to fight
one. If you don't like it.. well.. Cry?.
MISCONCEPTIONS
- Only noobs use a staff.
- All staff users have zero skill.
- None of the pros use staff.
- I should condemn everyone who uses staff!
- Staff is not the real name for the weapon, the
real name is noobstick!
- I should cry whenever I can't beat a staff user.
Everyone else does.
FACTS
- Several pro's use staff. I personally use staff.
I don't have the patience to kill you with single
or duals, because it takes too long and I'd
usually win either way.
- Whenever you see like say a pro single guy versus
a pro staff guy, the single guy doesn't condemn
the staff user if he wins, he tries to correct
his problem. Thats what I find a lot of people
need to learn to do instead of crying that they
lost.
Now, for the Strengths and Weaknesses.
STRENGTHS
- Unstoppable offensive power.
- All of the attacks have a defensive aspect
with them.
- Neverending combos.
- Effective airial combos.
- Has Single Yellow that you can use.
WEAKNESSES
- You'll never have a need to use Single Yellow.
- Special move that does absolutely nothing.
- Greatly upsets the whiners.
- Useless backstab and twirl.
- It has a bad reputation.
- Vulnerable to both skilled dual and single
users.
- Weak against staff users.
- ivA. Staff [SECIVA]
Both blades are enabled on the ends of your
lightsaber. It's so powerful, that you'll never
want to switch to yellow.
STRENGTHS
- Unstoppable offensive power.
- Extremely defensive.. if used correctly, not
even a staff will get through those dual sabers.
WEAKNESSES
- Useless kata, backstab, and twirl.
- You'll have difficulty with experienced single
and dual users. Dual users you may find will be
near impossible to beat without special moves.
- Horribly bad reputation. You may even get rejected
from clans and teams if your a staff user.
Special moves:
TWIRL
(CROUCH + FOWARD + ATTACK)
This is totally useless, and thats all I have to
say. Don't use it.
KATA
(ATTACK + ALTERNATE ATTACK)
Now I've gone through every special move in this
game. As you may have taken notice, well over half
of them are just pointless to use. Well, if there
is a level of beyond useless, this kata certainly
meets it. This is quite possibly the stupidest move
(that can hurt the enemy) in the game.
Combos:
COUNTER
Other Terms: Slice
Noob Terms: Fan, Spam
You strafe left to right and attack. If you spin,
it wont work and will only get you killed.. so
practice doing it without spinning. A lot of people
will cry when you use this because they don't
understand how to play against it. Just rub it in
their faces by spamming it if they keep crying
about it.
AIRBORNE COMBOS
Other Terms: None
Noob Terms: None
Same for diagonal counters, no one really uses
these combos. This is exactly why you should,
because no one expects it. Basically, its like
a strafe combo, but you hold down the right or left
or any directional key besides forward and backward
and make two attacks. On your second attack, you
should jump and spin, and then make a combo that
would go from that attack when you land.
This may take practice.
- ivB. Single Yellow (w/ small variations) [SECIVC]
Same for the Dual version of Single Blue, you can't
cartwheel and you can't kata.
I also doubt you'll want to do this unless your
fighting another staff user.
- ivC. Strategies [SECIVC]
Against Single.
If the single user is using blue, which I doubt
will happen unless your playing against some total
newbie, just spam stuff until they die.
If the single user is using yellow, use diagonal
combos.
If the single user is using red, the only thing
you can do is wait for that one second at the
end of their combos and attack them then.
Against Duals.
Use both diagonal combos and counter combos.. and
use it when you think your timing would be good
enough for them to work.
Against Staff.
If you are fighting a staff user, you can do one
of two things. One, you can switch to yellow and use
crouching counter combos, or two, you can use diagonal
combos on staff.

V.) Online Terminology [SECV]
=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--
A lot of first time Jedi Knight players pick up this
game, and they instantly start hearing stuff that
they've never heard before in a First-Person Shooter.
Some of it, in my opinion, is ridiculous, but
nonetheless I'll put it here.
This is only to help a new person understand some of
what goes on online. I'll write the word, then the
definition by it. I'm assuming you aren't a total
newbie and know what stuff like "lol" etc means.
lamer - Someone who kills you when your chatting, or
who kills you with your saber down (if your
into that whole honor code nonsense)
noobstick - A noob's name for a staff. They will only
glowstick say it if their crying because they lost
lightstick to you.
lightrod
Double-Ended Flashlight
scrim - A Clan VS Clan match usually between 3 to 6
people per clan.
force pool - The amount of force energy you have.

Each star represents a direction you can swing your
lightsaber. If you still dont understand, the player
is in the Center of the circle (respresented with a
+ sign.)
*
* *
* + * - Do one here.
* * - You can do two swings here and then...
*
Or..
*
* * - You can swing here..
* + * - To here..
* * - Then to here, causing
* a spin.

Just rub it in
their faces by spamming it if they keep crying
about it.
