All these posts about how to fight and how to use these weapons... and no post about what the significant differences of them are. This will be just a short little post explaining the major differences between the different sabers and styles in the game.
Some notes before I begin:
*Numbers here aren't in-game related. It's not like it's really a stat-based game. These are just ratings I give to each of them to make it easy to judge each style.
*The difference between Damage and Damage Per Second (DPS) in this case, is that Damage is the base destructive value of a connected hit, while DPS is how effective a saber is at dealing it at a fast rate. This is my own calculation though, based off best estimates of time in opponent/wiggle amounts/attack speed/etc. so the level of accuracy from the DPS rating is very debatable.
*All Ratings presume the user's Saber Attack and Saber Defend are on the max (3).
*Higher value = Better
General overview:
Single saber: Most diverse, and most flexible. Most commonly used saber type, as it is the easiest to learn with, and the hardest to master.
Dual Sabers: Speedy but overall a very neglected saber style. Often times viewed as a "lesser staff" and ignored. Least used saber type, and hard to learn on.
Staff Saber: Powerhouse, that tends to vary in usage. Often times considered a "noob's weapon" as it is the easiest to succeed with without proper training. With proper training, it is a lethal weapon used by some of the most skilled players.
Single Saber: Strong/Red
Damage Rating: 5
DPS Rating: 4
Block Rating: 5
Speed Rating: 1
Range Rating: 5
Details: Strong has the most flexibility it terms of being able to make mistakes. The high damage makes it easy to kill someone with in very few hits, and the slow speed allows for decently adjustable aim. The high block rating makes near-death saving blocks a distinct possibility, and allows the strong user to bash through any opponent's defenses aside from another strong style user in it's optimal stage.
Single Saber: Medium/Yellow
Damage Rating: 3
DPS Rating: 2
Block Rating: 2
Speed Rating: 2
Range Rating: 3
Details: Don't let the speed rating fool you. Anything after speed rating 1 is a significant improvement. While medium is not nearly as fast as the other styles, it is not so slow as to create obvious openings to be hit. Medium maintains decent damage, and all movements and combos are the same as strong style. The increased range makes it mildly effective against a staff's lesser stages in a delay battle, although head to head, the low block rating makes medium weak to anything other than fast style when engaging in a direct collision.
Single Saber: Fast/Blue
Damage Rating: 1
DPS Rating: 1
Block Rating: 1
Speed Rating: 4
Range Rating: 1
Details: This is by far the weakest style. The block rating means it cannot, under any circumstances, go head to head with another style unless that style is in a lesser stage. The speed rating is this style's only strength, but in a fight against someone using a style like akimbo, fast style is essentially useless. Despite it's speed, it's incredibly low damage makes it slow to dish out DPS, meaning that it will take a long time to kill someone with it, even with wiggling. It's range is also the shortest in the game. In other words, you will need to be right up close to get a hit. The expert timing required by it, and the handicaps it places on the user, makes this style effectively one of the hardest to master.
Dual Sabers: Akimbo
Damage Rating: 2
DPS Rating: 3
Block Rating: 3
Speed Rating: 4
Range Rating: 4
Details: Akimbo is what happens when you give someone two fast style sabers, a severely increased range, and a whole lotta rage. It is easily on par with fast style speed-wise, and has a higher... well, everything really. Damage is higher, range is a lot longer, block rating is higher... However, the wide span of attacks that akimbo has makes it likelihood of blocking increase dramatically, as your sabers will practically be everywhere at once. This has the possibility of working for or against you, depending on who and what you are fighting. The extra range makes it able to fight a staff in a distanced delay fight.
Dual Sabers: Fast
Damage Rating: 1
DPS Rating: 1
Block Rating: 1
Speed Rating: 4
Range Rating: 1
Details: This version of Fast style cannot do cartwheels or katas. It can, however, lunge. When the lunge is combined with a switch back to akimbo, it can make for a very lethal attack if landed. On 1.00, it is sabergun glitched.
Staff Saber: Staff
Damage Rating: 4
DPS Rating: 5
Block Rating: 4
Speed Rating: 3
Range Rating: 2
Details: Staff is a machine made for killing. With a powerful block rate, a speedy attack that ever so slightly outclasses medium swings, and a DPS like you wouldn't believe, staff holds the title as the King of the Sabers. It's major disadvantage is in it's range, which is shorter than everything besides fast style. While other styles, if kept at a good distance, are capable of defeating a staff, a staff is strong enough to negate ranged styles (except for strong style) in regular collisions and delay fights, if played right. In the event of fighting a strong style user, a staff is much faster to hit, and is capable of fast one hit kills when wiggled.
Staff Saber: Medium
Damage Rating: 3
DPS Rating: 2
Block Rating: 2
Speed Rating: 2
Range Rating: 3
Details: This version of medium cannot DFA, cartwheel, or kata. This can, to some degree, make aerial attacks with medium easier by removing those as potential issues. On 1.00, it is sabergun glitched.
